VERNISSAGE
This year’s Graphic Design vernissage, entitled SHIFT, was a great success. New graduates, faculty, alumni, professionals, friends and family enjoyed the culmination of three years’ work in a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere, where music, lights and decor shifted throughout the night, keeping with the theme of the exhibition. This vernissage marked the first time the SDGQ had a visible presence during the event. In an emotional goodbye, the students and faculty paid tribute to Marjorie Griffin’s long and inspiring career at Dawson College, and conveyed their heartfelt appreciation and respect for her as a person, teacher, friend and mentor as she begins her retirement.

A FEW WORDS FROM MARJORIE GRIFFIN
We hosted our final Alo event for this year. Those brave enough to get through the torrential spring downpour were rewarded with the amazing and inspiring film on Milton Glaser, “To Inform and Delight.” What an amazing designer, and what an amazing man! It was a great tribute to his life so far. (He’s still going strong.) The quote of his that I will take with me into retirement is, “never lose your capacity for astonishment.” Judging from him, that is the secret to staying young a heart...
It is bittersweet after all these years with Alo, to be giving up my post of faculty liaison, but I am very happy that George, with all his amazing qualities, has agreed to take over. The goal of creating a design community that links alumni, current students and the larger design world is still close to my heart, and I plan to stay in touch as a ‘Friend of Alo’ and hope to see many of you at future events.
There are way too many people to thank personally for their hours of dedication: I would be too afraid of leaving someone out. My heartfelt thanks to you all for your hours of dedication, and for giving of yourselves to a noble cause: It has been (most of the time) a lot of fun!
