Much of my artwork centres around water, both as a purely representational form and as a metaphor for various influences on my art. This work is part of an ongoing series I have been working through the last couple of years called Coastliners which is based around my childhood spent living on the northern central coast of Queensland. It ties together thoughts and feelings about my inherited sense of place, longing for belonging and the feelings of being displaced and uprooted – swept away. I am slowly finding that rather than a specific piece of land being identified as home, it is actually the proximity to water which engenders this response in me.
